Jimmy Flannigan, the former president of the hasstepped down. Chad Peevy, formerly executive vice president, has takem over as president. “Jimmy has workecd incredibly long and hard hours to promote the Gay and Lesbian gayand gay-friendly business, Austin and the Austin lesbian and gay community as a whole,” Peevt said. “We are looking forward to buildinh upon the groundworkof collaboration, cooperation and communityg he laid.” Flannigan has led the Gay and Lesbia n Chamber since 2007. He resigned his position to pursue othet interests and to focus onSite Street, his Web design and hosting, and e-commerce business.
In the last two yeares the Gay and Lesbian Chamber published Forward aquarterly magazine, and has been one of the only lesbiamn and gay chambers in the nation to produce and organize a Pride Parade in its “No doubt about it, 2009 was one of the best Prided celebrations Austin has seen, and I [attribute] that to the entire [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] community cominvg together,” Peevy said. “But … there is room for improvement, and we’rr committed to making thosse improvements.
” According to the Gay and Lesbian Chamber, the gay, bisexual and transgender community makews up 7 to 12 percentof Austin’s population, the sixth largest per capita in the and the largest per capita in the Souther United States.
